Iaido
ELKTON SAN SHIN KAI IAIDO

We offer instruction in Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido in downtown Elkton ten miles from Harrisonburg VA. We are an officially affiliated dojo in good standing with the North American San Shin Kai.
Iaido involves the practice of solo kata using an iaito (metal alloy practice sword). A shinken (traditional samurai steel sword with sharpened edge) may be used by more advanced students. Practice also involves kumitachi, paired exercises using bokuto (wooden swords), and tameshigiri, cutting
bamboo or straw mat rolls using shinken. Iaido practice requires developing serious concentration and discipline.

The Iaido group meets every Saturday before aikido.
The instructor is Brian Kelley.
